The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Central and Southern Groups on Student Affairs (CGSA and SGSA), including their regional Minority Affairs Sections (MAS) and Organizations of Student Representatives (OSR), will meet on April 9-13, 2008 in Destin, FL


HOST SCHOOLS

The University of Mississippi School of Medicine is the SGSA host school. It is responsible for local arrangements in Destin, on-line meeting registration and a reception on Thursday evening, April 10th.

The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, the University of Kansas School of Medicine and the University of Toledo College of Medicine are CGSA host schools. They will assist with on-site registration and host a reception and concurrent silent auction on Saturday evening, April 12th.

THEME : "Destin' for Change: Riding the Waves"

Change is inevitable and is a constant….

Attendance at this conference will help us learn to better adapt in the changing world of medical education and student affairs -- to help us to "ride the waves" of change.


PROGRAM

The program includes joint and concurrent breakout sessions of interest to all GSA constituents (admissions, student affairs, minority affairs, financial aid, student records, student representatives). Friday and Saturday afternoons and most evenings are free to enjoy the resort or local attractions.

SILENT AUCTION

The silent auction raised $2,123.49! Thanks to everyone who supported this worthwhile event!!

A silent auction will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 during the reception and poster session from 6:00 - 8:30 PM. All proceeds will benefit the Children's Volunteer Health Network, Inc. (CVHN) of Santa Rosa Beach.

The mission of the Children's Volunteer Health Network, Inc. is to enhance the lives of children in Okaloosa and Walton Counties by facilitating free immediate access to health, dental and mental care for uninsured and underinsured children.

It is estimated that 13% of the residents in Okaloosa county and 60% of the residents in Walton county are uninsured and at least 1/3 of those are children. The Children's Volunteer Health Network, Inc. facilitates the delivery of comprehensive direct medical, dental and mental health services to low income school children throughout Okaloosa and Walton counties and surrounding communities.

Everyone attending the CGSA/SGSA meeting is asked to donate one unique or imaginative item from their school (school mug, T-shirt), hometown (dinner or other gift certificate) or region (cookbook, art work) to be auctioned during the reception.
